ZTE to Sell Unlocked Nubia 5S Mini LTE Smartphone Through Amazon

The new phone will retail for $279.99 through Amazon.com and be available starting Aug. 27.

ZTE USA will offer consumers an unlocked version of its Nubia 5S Mini LTE smartphone through Amazon.com for $279.99 starting on Aug. 27. It is available for preorder immediately.
The China-based company unveiled the availability of the new phone in an Aug. 20 announcement from its Richardson, Texas-based U.S. division.
"Selling the Nubia 5S Mini LTE unlocked, direct to consumers shows ZTE has faith in its products and is capable of delivering LTE devices and consumer-focused innovation in the U.S.," Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA, said in a statement. "Offering an unlocked Android phone via Amazon addresses consumer demand for alternative devices that deliver more personal value than mainstream brands and don't tie them to one mobile eco-system."
The Nubia 5S runs on the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system and includes a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad Core CPU with an Adreno 305 GPU, a 4.7-inch HD 720-by-1,280 color display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (expandable to 32GB via micro SD card) and a 2,000-mAh Li-ion battery.

’m obsessed with the singularity, a moment in time where the known universe suddenly vanishes as it coalescences into one star-filled mass of pure nothingness. It fascinates me because I like the idea of a galactic reset button. It’s a simple way of clearing the mess. Simplicity is beauty itself and impresses when it’s in the form of a phone. And I must say that Huawei’s Ascend P7 is one of the simplest, most unpretentious phones of 2014. It’s a pure brick of Android that comes without the fluff and nonsense seen in most smartphones. It’s also pretty cheap, and will set buyers back a measly  R4 680  ( US$420 for US buyers ). Practically nothing is sacrificed for simplicity’s sake. There’s a 13MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, a thinness of 6.5mm, a full HD screen with Gorilla Glass 3, 2GB RAM, 4G LTE and lots more ( here’s the specifications ). Huawei’s cryptic IFA event invite hints at octa-core smartphone

SlashGear  has the full set of images, which includes illustrations of cats, an eight-speed transmission, a finger print, a safe, and a calculator. There’s also what looks like a phone or tablet in the shadows with just enough light to sketch out the number seven around the device. Huawei isn’t giving anything away but we’re thinking it might be an octa-core Ascend Mate 7 with finger print authentication and unlock. Huawei’s recently announced Kirin 920 features a 4+4 core design with a integrated multi-mode LTE Cat 6 radio. That takes care of the six cats, the safe and finger prints, and the eight speed transmission, but we can’t quite figure out what the calculator means. It’s also possible that the Ascend Mate 7 will be announced at IFA but the other images in the deck relate to a completely separate device. Guess we’ll find out September 4. Stay tuned!
